The Challenge
A community of 45 bungalows required a comprehensive energy efficiency upgrade to reduce heating costs and improve living conditions for residents. The housing provider needed a solution that would modernise the heating systems, introduce renewable energy, and enhance overall comfort without any upfront costs to the organisation or tenants.
The Solution
Working in partnership with Foundry Community Church, EGi Energy is delivering an extensive ECO4 retrofit programme across the qualifying bungalows:
- Electric Storage Heaters (ESH): Modern, efficient heating replacing outdated systems throughout the community
- Solar Panel Installation: Professional roof-mounted arrays for renewable energy generation across multiple properties
- Ventilation Strategy: Comprehensive air quality and moisture control solutions
Tenant Qualification
The majority of residents across the community are qualifying for ECO4 grant funding. The grant covers the full cost of all improvements for qualifying households, removing financial barriers and ensuring the community benefits from modern, energy-efficient homes.

About ECO4 Grants
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) scheme helps low-income and vulnerable households improve their home’s energy efficiency. Tenants may qualify based on:
- Receipt of certain benefits (e.g., Universal Credit, Pension Credit)
- Low household income (below £31k)
- Property energy rating (EPC band D, E, F, or G)
- Health conditions affected by cold homes
